What is Halloween Horror Nights?

Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed, nighttime event at Universal Studios Hollywood. On select nights from September 9 to October 31, Universal Studios Hollywood is transformed into L.A.’s most terrifying Halloween experience, filled with walk-through maze attractions, intense scare zones, and high-octane rides and attractions.

What new operational procedures are in place for Universal Studios Hollywood?

L.A. County Public Health has issued new requirements that apply to Universal Studios Hollywood. Beginning on October 7, all persons ages 12 and older must be prepared to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test taken within 72 hours of visit, prior to entry to the theme park. Persons ages 18+ must also present any photo ID. Full COVID-19 vaccination means that two weeks have passed since receipt of the second dose in a 2-dose series (e.g., Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) or since receipt of a single-dose vaccine (e.g., Johnson and Johnson [J&J]/Janssen). Verification will take place when required based on theme park attendance. Children under the age of 12 are not required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test result. Regardless of vaccination status, face coverings are required to be worn at all times, both indoors and outdoors, when visiting the theme park. At Universal CityWalk, face coverings are required to be worn within all indoor locations.

Do I need to bring proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or negative test result?

Beginning October 7, based on government guidance, all persons ages 12+, must be prepared to one of the following upon entry:  
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. Acceptable forms of proof of vaccination are a vaccination card or photo/digital photo of vaccination card (including name of person vaccinated, type of vaccine provided, and date last dose administered), a digital vaccination record from the California Department of Public Health or an approved company, or documentation of vaccination from a healthcare provider, in each case showing that at least two weeks have passed since receipt of the second dose in a 2-dose series (e.g., Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) or since receipt of a single-dose vaccine (e.g., Johnson and Johnson [J&J]/Janssen). For those vaccinated outside the United States, two weeks must have passed since the last dose of a vaccine that is listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test conducted within 72 hours before your visit. Acceptable forms of proof of negative test are a printed document or an email or text message displayed on a phone from the test provider or laboratory. The information should include name of person tested, type of test performed, and negative test result (date of test must be within prior 72 hours). A PCR or antigen (i.e. “rapid”) test is acceptable.  A COVID-19 self-test, sometimes referred to as “home test,” is not acceptable.
Persons ages 18+ must also present photo ID. Verification will take place when required based on theme park attendance. Children under the age of 12 are not required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test result.

What types of photo identification are acceptable for vaccine or test verification?

Your photo identification should include your name and photo. Acceptable forms of photo identification for all persons ages 18+ include a driver’s license, government issued identification card, a U.S. Passport, a U.S. Passport Card, or a student ID.

Do children need to have photo identification to enter?

Only persons ages 18+ are required to show photo identification. Persons under the age of 18 are not required to show photo identification. However, all persons ages 12+ must be prepared to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test taken within 72 hours of visit, prior to entry to the theme park.

What time does the event begin?

Event starts at 7:00 PM.

What time does early event admission begin?

6:00PM. Guests who purchase a ticket from Hollywood.HalloweenHorrorNights.com, Pass Members, and Team Members will receive Early Event Admission to the event, which allows early access to select mazes.  Enjoy Event Admission to select mazes at no extra charge starting at 6:15PM. Park entry starts at 6:00PM.

Can I wear a costume or mask?

Costumes, costume masks and/or face paint are not permitted at the event.

Is there an age minimum for the event?

There is no age minimum for the event. However, this event is recommended for mature audiences only and not recommended for children under 13. They will be exposed to extremely adult material. There are no refunds for this event.

Can I leave the event and come back later in the evening?

Event re-entry is allowed with a valid event ticket.

If it rains, will the event be cancelled?

Event occurs rain or shine. No refunds will be given.

Will the regular rides and attractions be open?

Several of Universal Studios Hollywood’s favorite rides and attractions will remain open for the nighttime Halloween Horror Nights experience. Can a Day and Night Combo ticket be upgraded to an Annual Pass?

Halloween Horror Nights is a special event, therefore tickets are not upgradable.

Can a Platinum Pass guest upgrade their HHN Comp ticket to a Universal Express product for Halloween Horror Nights?

Yes, Platinum Pass holders are able to upgrade to the Universal Express ticket once they arrive at the park. Please have them proceed to the Guest Services window with their Platinum Pass and Photo ID. Please note that this is subject to availability.

Where can I buy tickets?

You can purchase tickets online. Discounted tickets are available online if you purchase in advance for many of the event nights. We recommend you get your tickets early, as they will sell out.

Do Pass Members receive special pricing to purchase Halloween Horror Nights tickets?

Yes, Annual and Season Pass Members may purchase Halloween Horror Nights tickets for both themselves and their Guests by taking advantage of a special discount. 

I’m a Platinum Pass Member, how do I redeem my complimentary ticket?

Platinum Annual Pass Members are entitled to one free General Admission ticket to Halloween Horror Nights (per Pass). To redeem, present your valid Platinum Annual Pass at any Universal Studios Hollywood Front Gate turnstile on any one of the following dates: September 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, October 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 17, 21, 24, 28, 31. No special reservation or additional ticket required. This ticket is non-transferable. 

Is my ticket also good for the Halloween event at Universal Orlando?

Your ticket is only valid for admission to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles. 

Is there a ticket that allows quicker access to the mazes and rides?

The Universal Express and After 2PM Day/Night Combo with Universal Express Tickets include one-time express access to each maze/ride/attraction. The Universal Express Unlimited Ticket includes UNLIMITED express access to each maze/ride/attraction.*   Express access is a separate line with a shorter wait time at each maze/ride/attraction.   *Does not apply to food and retail locations.

How do you accommodate guests with disabilities?

Universal Studios Hollywood prides itself on providing complete and convenient access for all our guests with disabilities. Many rides, attractions, escalators and parking structures are designed to comfortably accommodate guests in wheelchairs and other disabilities. There are designated guests-with-disabilities entrances for all our attractions in the park. How do you accommodate guests with hearing impairments?

With one week notice, sign language interpreting services will be made available at no charge. Are service animals allowed in the park?

Service animals are permitted into our event. Guests with service animals should see attendant for further assistance. Service Animals are welcome in all of our restaurant and merchandise locations, attraction queues and most other locations throughout Universal Studios Hollywood. Additionally, there are specific entry/boarding requirements for each attraction and maze to assist the service animal’s owner in making an informed decision about their animal’s safe admission. Please consult the listing for each ride and attraction in our Rider’s Guide for Rider Safety and Guests with Disabilities or our designated entrance signs for more information.

How do you accommodate guests who require mobility assistance?

Guests may remain in standard wheelchair throughout. Guests using Electric Convenience Vehicle should see attendant for assistance. Wheelchair and ECV’s (Electric Convenience Vehicle) rentals are available for rent just inside the park, across from the Universal Studios Store.

Where is Universal Studios Hollywood located?

We are conveniently located right off the 101 (Hollywood) Freeway, approximately ten minutes north of Downtown Los Angeles. Exit either Universal Studios Boulevard or Lankershim Blvd. Our address is 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608.
